Alexander wins Southern Marines Talent Expression

A scintillating rendition of the Pan In A Minor earned Tyeesha Alexander the top spot at the finals of the Southern Marines Steelband Foundation 16th Talent Expression Competition held on November 19. Venue was the band’s Pan Palais, headquarters, Marabella.

Performing the piece from the repertoire of the late Grand Master of Calypso Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) student secured the champion spot before an enthusiastic audience.

Alexander impressed with her technical mastery and her engagement of the audience as she paid homage to the steelpan. She was closely followed by vocalists Deryck Hinds and Lystra Nurse, who squeezed out every milligram of their experience to keep the rest of the competitors at bay.

By popular acclaim, this year’s competition was among the best that Southern Marines has staged over the years and given the challenging financial circumstances which the country faces, it is a positive move to ensure Talent Expression survives to provide a space for performance artistes to express their skills.

The management of Southern Marines has expressed its appreciation of the contribution to the show made by emcee Malika Blair and the guest artistes including King Harry, Rudolph Jack, Clint Davis (Baby Blue) and Abebele.

Those who partnered with Southern Marines in ensuring the show was delivered and who deserve the gratitude of the community are: TECU Credit Union, Petrotrin, Safeway Scaffolding, Screen Tex, Fen Mohammed Stores, OWTU, Trinweld, Willi Chen, Carrat Shed and the Abraham family.
