Pan Trinbago Celebrates Pan Month in August with a Series of Virtual Events

A month long calendar of events will mark this year’s commemoration of Pan Trinbago’s Pan Month in August marking the anniversary of the declaration of the steelpan as the national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago.

This year’s celebration is a double one as it also coincides with the fiftieth (50th) anniversary of the acquisition of the name “Pan Trinbago”.

The anniversary event will be different from previous years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a nod to the reality of the pandemic, Pan Trinbago Inc. will hold a series of virtual events, twenty eight (28) in all, which can be enjoyed from at home.

“These new habits will not reduce the substance of the anniversary celebrations” said a Organizing Committee member, “these exciting programs are geared to everyone that can be viewed by on-line streaming.”

From August 01 to August 31, the steelpan community will take centre stage with a host of events and topics ranging from Education, Evolution, Economical to Entertainment and a souvenir supplement.

One of the main features is an educational webinar presentation themed “Intellectual Property,  Trademarks and Branding” with facilitators Dionnne Mc Nicol-Stephenson and Enrico Camejo. This comes off on Tuesday August 03, from 6:00 pm. Education Officer, Marcus Ash, will act as moderator. Participants can tune in to Pan Trinbago Facebook and YouTube pages or register for the zoom link.

Other presentations on the month long itinerary include Youth Forum, Sponsors’ Appreciation Day, Conversations in Steel, Entrepreneur Day, Steelpan Hero Appreciation  and  a Church Service.

There will be entertainment segments including “Tune for Tune”, Talent Show featuring members of the Central and Regional Executives, “Pan Verzuz” and Panorama Nostalgia.

World Steelpan Day will have its own observance on August 11 in the form of a virtual concert showcasing the pan talent of The Codrington Pan Family, North Coast Pan Serenaders, Glenda Collens and Natasha Joseph among others.  Professor Brian Copeland, Pro Vice Chancellor – University of the West Indies will deliver the feature address.

The Organization will also remember Ursula Tudor, Desperadoes longest-standing pannist under the title “The Pinnacle of Steelpan” on Sunday August 01 at 6:00pm with a rerun on August 10 at 8:00pm.

All events will be streamed via Pan Trinbago social media platforms and WACK 90.1fm
