WORKSHOPS FOR PANORAMA JUDGES AND ARRANGERS

Pan Trinbago Inc. T.C.  have embarked on two (2) workshops with the aim of improving the adjudication process at the Panorama competitions and to produce a cadre of professionally trained judges.

The first in the series is a workshop earmarked for Arrangers. The forum will be conducted by Ms. Nubia Williams on October 08, 2019, at the Laventille Community Complex, Trinity Avenue, Eastern Main Road, Laventille from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Arrangers are invited to share their views on the adjudication process in a bid “to improve the judging criteria for implementation at the 2020 Panorama competitions.”

Ms. Williams is a music educator, adjudicator for steelband and calypso, steelpan examiner and pannist. She has taught music at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, and was Regional Coordinator for seven (7) years with the Pan in the Classroom Unit, Ministry of Education and has been judging music at home and abroad for the past 25 years.

Coming on the heels of this initial workshop is the second in the series, this time geared to judges/adjudicators.

The Judges’ Workshop will also take place at the NCC VIP lounge, Queen’s Park Savannh, Port of Spain, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, The discussion will be held over three days ie Saturday October 12, Sunday October 13 and Saturday 19 October 2019.

Individuals who are interested and who wish adjudicate at Panorama 2020 are invited. However, they must attend all three session in order to be eligible for selection.  Participants are advised to bring their laptops/tablets for this exercise.

Ms. Nubia Williams, facilitator, will make presentations which will include a number of topics relevant to the judging of the competitions.

This latest event is the continuation of a series of workshops conceptualized and implemented by Ms. Williams over the years covering topics such as Pan and Calypso Adjudication, Pan Arranging, Creativity in the use of Percussion, Computer Music Programs. She continues to be an ardent proponent of the Arts worldwide while conducting research and implement programs for organizations as well as gifted and talented individuals.

At the end of the workshop, it is hoped that several objectives will be achieved: to identify the basic elements of music, explore the fundamental characteristics of a good Panorama arrangement consider different ability levels between various competitions, gain a better insight into the awarding of marks to Panorama offerings and make written and verbal comments on performances in alignment with marks awarded as well as to produce judges who will form the nucleus of a new regional skill sharing and inter-island cultural exchange and put Pan Trinbago at the helm of this initiative.
