WeBeat FIVE A SIDE COMPETITION FINALISTS

Nine (9) steelband ensembles have confirmed their participation in the five a side steelband competition staged by the St. James Community Improvement Committee organizers of WeBeat St. James Live 2019.

The event sponsored by TSTT/bmobile and endorsed by Pan Trinbago Inc. takes place on Thursday June 13, at the St. James Amphitheatre, Western Main Road, St. James at 8:00 pm. Admission is $150. Patrons can walk with their coolers.

The nine (9) “finalists” were announced by the event coordinator at the end of the registration period on Tuesday afternoon.

The competing bands are: 

Caribbean Steel Pan Connection
Road Block Steel Orchestra
Tripolians
Sapophonics
Suave Steel Orchestra
Harvard Harps
La Creole Pan Groove
Renegades Youth Steel Orchestra
Valley Harps

Bands will vie for the $5000. first prize.  Second to fifth placed bands will receive $4000, $3000. $2000. $1500. In that order. Each of the other finalists will collect a $1000. Appearance fee.

Bands will be limited to five (5) players who must be stage side members of the participating bands which are financial members of Pan Trinbago. Bands must perform a song/tune composed by Dr. Winston Bailey, aka The Shadow and not longer than five (5) minutes in duration.

Three (3) adjudicators will officiate. Bands will be judged on Arrangement (40 points), General Performance (40), Tone (10) and Rhythm (10).

No players will be allowed to perform with more than one band. Any band found breaking this rule will be disqualified.

Five A Side was first staged in 2006 under Alvin Daniell with The Codrington Pan Family winning that competition.

St. James Tripolians will entertain patrons before the start of the competition.
