Panorama 2025 Adjudication Process

Adjudication Preparation

Pan Trinbago Adjudication Workshop was held on May 16th, 17th and 20th, 2024 at the V.I.P. Lounge, Queen's Park Savannah Port of Spain. This is a yearly process.
 

Pan Trinbago Elevates Steelband Adjudication with Three-Day Workshop Pan Trinbago hosted a successful three-day Adjudication Workshop on May 16th, 17th, and 20th, 2024, at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain. Led by Education Officer Marcus Ash and facilitated by Nubia Williams of Aibun Industries, the event trained approximately 100 adjudicators through interactive sessions on judging  criteria, performance analysis, and Steelpan’s historical significance. 
 

President Beverley Ramsey-Moore, in her closing remarks, praised the adjudicators' contributions and highlighted the workshop's role in maintaining high standards and fostering cultural excellence in Steelband adjudication. 
 

The initiative reflects Pan Trinbago’s commitment to preserving and innovating Steelband traditions, ensuring fairness in competitions while promoting Trinidad and Tobago’s musical heritage locally, regionally, and globally.
 

Adjudication Process

PANORAMA 2004: ADJUDICATION PROCESS

7.7 Procedure for Judging Qualifying/Preliminary Rounds
The adjudication process for the Qualifying and Preliminary stages of the Panorama competition is as follows:


1. Appointment of Adjudicators:

The Panorama Management Committee will recommend four (4) panels of four (4) adjudicators each to judge:

The Qualifying Round for Single Pan Bands.
○ The Preliminary Round for Conventional Steelbands in the various categories.

 

2. Selection of Scores:

After the Qualifying Round for Single Pan Bands and the Preliminaries for Conventional Steelbands, the four (4) adjudicators will:

○ Draw by ballot to determine which three (3) scores will be applied to the final result.
○ The fourth adjudicator will serve as the alternate.

3. Alternate Adjudicator:
In the event an adjudicator becomes unable to perform their duties for the entire stage of the competition, the score will be determined by the remaining three (3) adjudicators.

4. Scoresheet Transparency:

○ Scoresheets will be opened in the presence of member bands who accept an invitation to attend.
○ Participating band members can collect a copy of their scoresheets after the results are verified.

 

7.8 Procedure for Judging: Semi-Final and Final Rounds
The adjudication process for the Semi-Final and Final stages of the competition includes six (6) adjudicators.
1. Ballot for Scoring:

○ At the conclusion of each round, the six (6) adjudicators will draw by ballot to determine:
■ Five (5) adjudicators whose scores will contribute to the final result.
■ One (1) adjudicator will act as the alternate.

2. Verification and Sign-Off:
○ Each adjudicator will receive a printed version of their assigned scores for verification and sign-off.

 

3. Score Calculation:

○ The highest and lowest points awarded to a band will be excluded.
○ The final score will be the aggregate of the remaining three (3) adjudicators' points.

7.9 The Score

1. Aggregate Points:
The final score earned by a steelband in the Semi-Final and Final rounds will be the aggregate of points awarded by three (3) adjudicators, as determined by the process above.
2. Inability to Function:
If one of the six (6) adjudicators cannot function for the entire competition, the score will be determined using the five (5) remaining adjudicators.

7.10 Finality of Decisions
The decision of the adjudicators is final and binding.
● The Panorama Management Committee will not entertain any protests or appeals regarding the adjudication process or results.
