About the Event - Steelpan is More Beautiful 2024

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The National Steelband Music Festival returns to Trinidad and Tobago after an 11-year hiatus, proudly patronized by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley. Themed "Canopeum Amoris - A Canopy of Love," the festival promises an evening of musical excellence, celebrating the cultural heritage and unity embodied by the Steelpan.
This year's festival, themed "Canopeum Amoris - A Canopy of Love," is a heartfelt tribute to the enduring love affair between our people and the captivating melodies of the Steelpan. The festival will showcase the immense talent and versatility of our Steelbands and to celebrate the universal language of love that binds us all. The festival promises to captivate audiences with rhythmic melodies and soul-stirring harmonies, transforming classical tunes into mesmerizing masterpieces.
The festival will feature forty-six (46) Steelbands, including (17) Single Pan, (18) Ensemble, and (11) Orchestra categories. The competition will include qualifying rounds and finals, with each band performing a Test Piece and a Tune of Choice. The finals will highlight the best performances, with six Ensembles, eight Single Pan Bands, and eight Orchestras competing for top honours. Winners will receive monetary prizes and trophies for Best Test Piece, Best Tune of Choice, Best Dressed Band, and Champion Band.
The festival's inaugural day will commence in the Northern Region with the Single Pan Qualifying Round, scheduled for Friday, 12th July 2024, at 7 PM. This event will be held at the Stardust Steelband, located at Government School, Fitzallen Street, Point Cumana. The proceedings will continue with performances by Steelbands in three additional regions.
